1. What is ADR Transportation?

ADR stands for Accord Dangereux Routier, which is the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road.
In the UK, ADR sets out the legal framework for transporting hazardous materials safely by road.
It covers:

  • Classification of dangerous goods
  • Packaging and labelling requirements
  • Vehicle specifications
  • Driver training and certification
  • Documentation and emergency procedures

ADR compliance is mandatory for businesses involved in the transport of substances such as flammable liquids, corrosives, toxic chemicals, and lithium-ion batteries. 2. What is classed as ADR?

ADR Classes used to categorise types of dangerous goods. 
Each class has specific transport and handling requirements that our team is trained to handle.
There are 9 main classes as follows:

  • Class 1 – Explosive substances
  • Class 2 – Gases and gaseous substances
  • Class 3 – Flammable liquids
  • Class 4.1 – Flammable solids, self-reactive substances, desensitized explosives
  • Class 4.2 – Substances liable to spontaneous combustion
  • Class 4.3 – Substances which form flammable gases with water
  • Class 5.1 – Flammable substances
  • Class 5.2 – Organic peroxides
  • Class 6.1 – Toxic substances
  • Class 6.2 – Infectious substances
  • Class 7 – Radioactive substances
  • Class 8 – Corrosive substances
  • Class 9 – Miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles
3. Do you provide ADR for Lithium Batteries?

Yes, we provide ADR transport for all lithium batteries.
We provide ADR compliant transport nationwide for all lithium battery types including:

  • UN 3480 – Lithium-ion batteries (not contained in or packed with equipment)
  • UN 3481 – Lithium-ion batteries contained in or packed with equipment
  • UN 3090 – Lithium metal batteries (not contained in or packed with equipment)
  • UN 3091 – Lithium metal batteries contained in or packed with equipment
  • Damaged or defective lithium batteries may require special handling and classification under UN 3090 or UN 3480, with additional packaging and documentation requirements.
  • All lithium battery transport must comply with ADR regulations, including labelling, documentation, and driver certification.
  • All lithium batteries must be carried for transport in UN approved containers, any that are prone or suspected of being damaged must be in transport safe carriage units.
